High Heel project
Asked to design a new and UNIQUE design for the magazine "dazed and confused" taking inspiration from both the cover and what the contents may contain. this brief was set to test not only my researching ability but, also my 3d modelling skills as the one catch to the project was that the end result had to be 3d printed.
It was very important to me to focus on ergonomics very early on in the project, To see how I could improve the heel itself to take off some of the pressure and pain heels course to the foot.
I started by analysing the heel of the shoe itself, seeing where the most pressure is being applied when working and then how I could reduce that pressure to reduce injury.
I then looked at what injuries there are, most of the injuries happen in the legs. most of the injuries when wearing heels are found in the lower part of the leg, mostly in the calf, tendons and the bridge of the foot. These injuries are coursed by a lack of support in the shoe.
After taking in all this information about potential injuries and relieving pressure in the foot, I designed 3 heels all based on nature and the environment, as through researching the magazine dazed and confused this was the best aesthetics that fits their style.
I development a version of a heel based on the wind element, I develop this design as it was the most popular when showing all sketches to potential users, I also thought this design had the most potential as the design shows off elegances and with the right colour scheme can embody other themes.
3D Modelling
This project was about 3d modelling and printing, this was very beneficial when modelling my design has it had a large organic shape on the side and as is the heel. I used a stencil of a wing to get the basic shape and then built up the feathers from the tip of the heel all the way up the mouth at the top.
I also created mini high heels to test colour schemes to see which colours fits best with my design, it also makes it easier to show to users for convinces.
I created renders with the potential colours of the heel, this would specially only be the wing as at this point I had already decided the main body would be matte black to contrast what ever colour the wing would be. the wing ended up being a mixture of the blue and purple (blue and fades into a purple) as this the cover of dazed and confused had a punk and psychedelic aesthetic, blues and purples are heavily used in psychedelic art and colour scheme.
